Finally, You Can Eat What You Want, When You Want! (Maybe)

To diet or not to diet….. That seems to be the question these days.

Recently, I’ve been inspired to write about intuitive eating. This is, simply put (from what I gather), listen to your body and eat what it wants, when it wants, but stop when you’re satisfied, not stuffed. Best part is, anything goes! Fries, donuts, salad, doesn’t matter. There is no ‘bad food’.

Benefits of Intuitive Eating:

  • No more feeling guilty for eating that piece of cake or having some ice cream. This means less food related stress all together.
  • Due to the reduced amount of food, you may experience some weight loss and/or improved mental clarity. This is also the reason, I think it’s also linked to lower blood pressure and cholesterol levels.
  • No new foods to figure out or recipes to find.

Sounds tempting, so tempting! I love chocolate, biscuits and gravy, and peanut butter and jelly sandwiches!

Now that I’ve gotten your attention with a too good to be true eating method. I have so many questions that I won’t be answering today, rather, I’ll be asking them in hopes to spark some feedback on the subject. Because to me, it seems to have so many variables, it is likely to leave many confused. I know I am.

My questions that make it seem more dangerous than healthy are:

  • Biggest question I have: How do you get enough nutrients to not only sustain good health, but to experience optimal health, unless you’re already eating nutrient rich foods?
  • What the current average American diet consists of (even if taken in smaller quantities) is still going to cause imbalances that can lead to a number of health issues. How is this prevented, or are they just going to be treated?
  • Really, where do you draw the line for people to consider their healthy relationship with food or intuitive eating a healthy choice?
  • Honestly, what do we consider food these days? Some of that stuff, I’m sure, never was a plant or animal product to begin with.
  • Even though we have filters to eliminate the toxins and bad or extra stuff, what happens when those filters can’t work quickly enough?
  • What if we are constantly filtering and not letting our bodies heal or just simply rest?

What most people don’t stop to think about often enough, is that everything we put in our bodies tells our cells what to do. I’ll repeat. Everything we put in our bodies tells our cells what to do. How do I reconcile this? I’d sure love to turn a blind eye and eat what I want. I would be the best mom ever to my kids, too. ?
